Juniper, Polycom counter Cisco with video con play

Austin Modine writes why Juniper Networks and Polycom are working together in the enterprise telepresence and video conferencing spaces.
“Juniper Networks and Polycom have formed an alliance to sell enterprise telepresence and video conferencing services through third-party providers, in an apparent effort to counter Cisco’s recent acquisition of video-conferencing gear maker Tandberg. Juniper and Polycom are already rivals to Cisco in their respective fields, and the two are already technology partners. The two outfits claim it will be cheaper and more reliable for enterprises to use telepresence as a service from network providers instead of overlaying the technology over existing network kit that’s not necessarily optimized for the task.”
More rumors circulating about Microsoft Pink project; possible launch this spring

Rachel King shares some information from reports regarding Microsoft’s “Project Pink” initiative.
“While Microsoft has not commented or confirmed the codename Pink gadget, CNET is reporting that it will be targeted towards younger audiences (teens and/or twenty-somethings?) – and it will released this spring. Supposedly different from any Windows Mobile 7 consumer handheld, it will also have a special emphasis on social networking and communication. Sounds about right for a youthful smartphone.”
Acer to launch e-reader, app store, and Chrome OS netbook this year

Vladislav Savov shares some of Acer’s product plans for this year.
“Acer … (is) Promising to fully detail a six-inch monochrome e-reader by June, the company says it’ll target European markets first. More intriguingly, we’re also informed of a forthcoming application store that will be compatible with Android, Windows Mobile, and in due course, Chrome OS. Apps will free or close to it. A Chrome OS netbook is also being promised for the third quarter … Finally, an Acer tablet is in the works, accompanied by the candid admission that the Taiwanese giant is waiting to see what Apple has in store before finalizing its own plans.”
