Adaptec and Intel partner on RAID solutions

Storage systems developer Adaptec, Inc., announced that they have extended their existing relationship with Intel Corp. to deliver hardware and software RAID products.

As part of the new collaboration, which includes a licensing agreement, the two companies will join forces in delivering RAID products to major OEM customers and intend to work together on the development, marketing, support, and innovation of other new RAID solutions.

The collaboration combines Intel IOP 34x Storage Processor line that delivers multi-protocol support and data protection across a range of platforms, with three Adaptec technologies: the Unified Serial architecture that supports both Serial ATA (SATA) and Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) disk drives, ARC RAID stack and StorLib Management application programming interface (API). Products are expected to start shipping based on the collaboration this month.

Sundi Sundaresh, president and chief executive officer of Adaptec, said Intel and Adaptec share a common goal and that is to deliver innovative storage solutions based on hardware and software RAID technology to provide advanced data protection features currently not available in the marketplace. OEMs have a choice and we believe by working together, we can help OEM customers enter and serve new markets vital to their businesses.

Mike Wall, storage general manager, Intel Server Platforms Group, said working with Adaptec and its RAID software stack and Intel’s IOP Storage Processor line will yield compelling solutions for OEMs who require the most advanced data protection for their customers.
