”Months after promising to do so, Google has rolled out a recognition system for YouTube that can help copyright owners block unauthorized uploads of their work. Gigi Sohn of Public Knowledge weighed in with an early criticism, noting that such systems have trouble distinguishing fair uses from infringements. So do some copyright holders, heh heh heh.”

An alternative use for the iPhone

Stephen Kamizuru has an alternative use for Apple’s iPhone: reading manga.

“Earlier in the year, Japanese software firm Voice Bank announced a deal with the Digital Manga Association Japan (DMAJ) to provide manga for the U.S. market via iPhone. Software developed by Voice Bank will shrink manga pages created for viewing on the PC to iPhone size.”

Erick Schonfeld comments on Skype’s shortfall.

”When Skype founder Niklas Zennstrom stepped down earlier this month with only one-third of his payout from eBay, it was clear that Skype fell short of its goals in regards to growing its number of active users, revenues, and gross profits. Obviously, Skype is not a good fit for eBay. But what exactly were those goals? After all, Skype’s revenues grew 96 per cent in the third quarter and it is on track to bring in $400 million in revenues this year.“
