Another top Microsoft Canada exec is gone

House cleaning or jumping ship? The unsettled situation at Microsoft Canada continues as Neil Tanner no longer has the role of vice-president of small business, mid-market solutions and partners (SMB&P) at Microsoft Canada.

According to a Microsoft Canada spokesperson, Tanner is still with the company until the end of the summer. Tanner will be helping with the transition process for his replacement.

A full search has been launched, the spokesperson said, to find a replacement. In the meantime, Eric Feagler, the corporate accounts lead at Microsoft Canada, will be the active lead in SMB&P.

Tanner’s decision does not impact Greg Larnder, who was named the new channel chief during the recently concluded Worldwide Partner Conference in Toronto. The same spokesperson told CDN that Larnder would report to Feagler in the interim.

Tanner joins Eric Gales, former Microsoft Canada president and Corinne Sharp, former channel chief, in exiting the subsidiary recently. In fact, Tanner’s last big move was hiring Larnder, who was the vice president of central sales at Compugen, CDN’s No. 1 Solution Provider of last year.

According to sources, the new president of Microsoft Canada, Max Long told employees this afternoon about Tanner’s departure.

Tanner came to Microsoft Canada three-years to fill the role of vacated by Gales who was then promoted to Canadian president. Before joining Microsoft Canada, Tanner has the same role but at Microsoft Ireland. He held that position for four years. Prior to that Tanner ran his own solution provider business for seven years and was a big Microsoft partner in the region.
