Arrow and Avnet will offer McAfee’s embedded solutions

Security vendor McAfee has teamed with value-added distributors Arrow Electronics Inc. and Avnet Embedded to help bring its embedded security solutions to market.

The distributors will now offer McAfee Embedded Security to their partners, building on McAfee’s existing relationships with Advantech and Bsquare.

McAfee said it’s partnering with key technology distributors to embed proactive zero-day protection into embedded devices, so security isn’t an add-on to these increasingly prevalent and important solutions, but is am embedded option at the distribution level.

“Embedded is a fast-growing market that needs to apply security best practices,” said Tom Moore, vice-president of worldwide embedded sales at McAfee, in a statement. “McAfee is making it easier for OEMs and designers to add leading security technology to their products through the distribution channel. Our goal is to secure the rapidly growing embedded device market and thereby lessen the risk to both device OEMs and consumers.”

Other McAfee solutions that will now be available through Avnet and Arrow include: McAfee Integrity Control, McAfee Application Control, McAfee Endpoint Protection Suite, and McAfee VirusScan Enterprise.

“We live in an embedded world where everything is connected,” said Brian Armstrong, vice-president of Arrow’s OCS business, in a statement. “With this greater connectivity comes an increase in threats to the consumer. McAfee Embedded Security protects the customer against these threats while giving designers time to focus on their product designs rather than how to secure them.”

“With McAfee’s technologies, Avnet customers developing embedded devices can ensure their products will be protected from the evolving threat landscape,” added Chuck Kostalnick, senior vice-president, Avnet Embedded. “It’s not good enough to just provide the blacklisting approach of traditional antivirus solutions. Today’s environment calls for a more proactive solution that provides zero-day protection.”
