As mobile malware grows, so does the mobile security market

The number of unique malware variants targeting mobile devices isskyrocketing – but so are channel opportunities within the securitymarket for applications to fight against them.

But as our source article from PC Advisor (UK) reports, theproliferation of mobile malware is also giving the IT securitysector a massive boost. More than 130 billion mobile security apps havealready been downloaded to date, ABI estimates.

The global market for mobile application security will hit almost $400million by the end of this year, according to ABI’s calculations. Thefirm said that figure includes revenues for paid apps, partnershipswith manufacturers and operators, white label deals, and dataset sales.

ABI also listed its picks for which vendors are standing out from thecrowd as the mobile security niche evolves. It lists AVG Technologies,Lookout and Avast Software as some of the best makers of software toprotect against malware, theft and privacy breaches.

ABI’s top picks for mobile security innovation are Lookout, Dr. Web andTrustGo. For implementation of viable long-term mobile securitysolutions, ABI gives kudos to Kaspersky Lab, Ikarus and McAfee.
