Asus reinvents the mouse at Computex

PC vendor Asus unveiled a computer mouse like no other this week at the Computex trade show in Taiwan.

Called the VivoMouse, the new peripheral has an ergonomic design and functions as both a traditional desktop mouse and a wireless handheld remote. It can either be used as a standard optical mouse, or the circular surface on the top can be used as a touchpad with full support for Windows 8 multi-touch gestures. Asus particularly sees the VivoMoue as an ideal peripheral for a living room PC/entertainment centre.

The VivoMouse measures 5.3” x 3” x 1” with a three-point multi-touch touchpad, 1200 dpi optical sensor and 2.4GHz RF wireless connection.

In addition to the VivoMouse, Asus also launched the VivoPC. Designed as a compact and stylish new form factor PC ideal for productivity and home entertainment, it’s 2.2” tall and has the footprint of a sheet of letter paper. It incorporates Asus SonicMaster audio technology and has 802.11ac WiFi for HD audio streaming. A sliding case cover makes for easy expandability, and gives access to two internal memory slots and a drive bay.

The VivoPC is powered by an Intel processor with Intel HD integrated graphics, supports 3.5”/2.5” SATA 6Gb/s HHD/SSD support, has two USB 3.0 and four USB 2.0 ports, and measures 7.4” x 7.4” x 2.2”.

Pricing and availability is not available for either product.
