Aug. 23, 2017 – Elon Musk wants to ban killer robots, Google Assistant-powered headphones

Elon Musk continues to lead the charge against potential killer robots, is Google planning on releasing Google Assistant-powered headphones? And IBM teams up with a large group of grocers to bring blockchain to grocery stores.

From Facebook – Elon Musk is at the head of a pack of 116 robotics and artificial intelligence experts calling for the United Nations to ban the development and use of killer robots. The UN had recently voted to begin the formal discussions on autonomous weapons such as drones, tanks, and automated machine guns. This group of experts is asking the UN to prevent the arms race that is currently underway for killer robots, calling it the third revolution in warfare after gunpowder and nuclear arms. Yikes, sounds like it might be best to leave the killer robots to the movies.

From Google Trends – Google Assistant is trending after reports have popped up stating that we could potentially be seeing Google Assistant-powered headphones released alongside the next iteration of the Pixel. 9to5Google sifted through the code of the latest version of the smart assistant and found references to a line of code that spells out: “Your headphones have the Google Assistant. Ask it questions. Tell it to do things. It’s your own personal Google, always ready to help.” While this is far from verification of this technology, we can speculate that perhaps by the end of 2017 you’ll be able to talk to Google Assistant through your headphones.

And from Reddit – IBM is collaborating with Wal-Mart, Kroger, and tons more to bring blockchains to the food supply chain. The idea behind this collaboration is so that the food industry can figure out exactly how blockchain technology will fit within the food industry. Considering how complicated the food supply chain is from producer all the way down to the consumer, blockchains could provide some much needed transparency and traceability. IBM’s blockchain platform will form the basis of this project moving forward.
