Barracuda provides new security options for MSPs

Managed service providers (MSPs) have new security options to protect their virtual and public cloud environments.

Barracuda Networks, Inc., an cloud-based vendor of security, networking and storage, has introduced two new versions of it NextGen Firewall – Intronis MSP Edition. Made specifically for public cloud and 100 per cent virtualized environments, the two firewall solutions are being sold as subscription services.

Barracuda says the software will provide MSPs with “a turnkey solution” that will protect networks running in VMware, Citrix XenServer, KVM, and Hyper-V virtualized environments, while the public cloud options provide “secure connectivity” for Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, and Google Cloud Platform.

“The ever-changing business and threat landscape is driving MSPs to seek out new and innovative ways to protect their customers against data loss,” Brian Babineau, general manager for MSP solutions at Barracuda, says in a press release from Jan. 23. “By adding virtual and public cloud firewall deployment options to our growing line-up of data protection and security solutions, we are providing MSPs with even more choices when it comes to protecting their customers’ virtual, physical, and hybrid environments.”

The solution features a dedicated centralized management console, and similar to the physical version of the firewall introduced in 2016, the virtual one can also be controlled through this centre, which simplifies the deployment of common security policies for multiple units and users.

The company adds that this solution is ideal for customers looking to scale their virtual deployments faster and more dynamically or reduce their investment in dedicated hardware. And as an added advantage, the virtual firewall reduces the management costs associated with physical hardware, such as shipping, upgrades and replacement.

“Offering access to real-time information about the firewall deployment, the centralized console enables MSPs to quickly and easily generate reports on one or all of their Barracuda NextGen Firewalls, or create pre-configured templates for easy rollout,” Barracuda’s press release explains. “Together, these features increase system availability for the MSP’s customers while keeping administrative time and operation costs in check.”

The firewalls are offered in partnership with Intronis MSP Solutions, which offers security and data protection for businesses in the IT channel, and as a result, can also be bundled with other offerings from Intronis.

The two firewalls are now available in North America and Europe.
