BlackBerry in the enterprise

For the enterprise, BlackBerry is still making all the right moves

Jason Hiner shares his thoughts on why he believes BlackBerrys dominate the enterprise space.

“It’s easy to think that IT loves BlackBerrys simply because they’ve been working with them for a long time and they can control them better. It’s also true that RIM has gone out of its way to build the kind of hardware, software, and backend platform that CIOs want and are willing to buy. However, IT’s affinity for BlackBerrys is mostly because they are easier to standardize and deploy to workers, easier to troubleshoot remotely, and easier to wipe when they get lost. There are third party solutions bringing these same kinds of functions to iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile, and other platforms, but with BlackBerry much of the functionality is either baked in and/or there are partners that have been bolstering the functionality for 5-10 years.”

Will HP/Palm be the enterprise challenger to RIM?
ZD Net
Matthew Miller writes how HP’s pending acquisition of Palm could mean increased enterprise competition for RIM.

“Like RIM, Palm prefers hardware QWERTY keyboard devices and if we look at the last few years of HP smartphones we see hardware QWERTY devices as well. This form factor appeals to the enterprise user and with Palm’s slick webOS operating system I would think workers would much rather have one of their devices over an aging BlackBerry. RIM isn’t standing still either with BlackBerry 6 coming later this year, but I don’t think it looks as ‘consumer friendly’ as webOS and we could have a real enterprise battle in the future.”

MSI Android, Windows 7 tablets launching in June, dualscreen delayed until Q4
Engadget
Joanna Stern writes about MSI’s upcoming plans for its Android and Windows 7 touchscreen devices.

“It looks like ASUS won’t be the only Taiwanese manufacturer whipping out new tablets at Computex in early June, and MSI will be joining the party with its Android and Windows 7 touchscreen devices. According to the company, the tablets will come in 8.9- and 10-inch varieties, and will ship sometime in the third quarter.”
