Juniper sprints ahead of Cisco in edge routers

Cisco Subnet illustrates how Cisco is doing in the edge router space when compared with Juniper.
“Cisco’s lack of any new edge routers is hurting the company as it competes with Juniper in the service provider space…(An) Investor’s Business Daily…story reports that Cisco revealed slower growth in its router business, which grew 8% year-over-year in Cisco’s Q4, down from 14% growth in Q3. ‘That growth far lagged recent results of No. 2 networking gear maker Juniper Networks.’…reports IBD.”

Dan Goodin explains how virtual private networks help play a role in maintaining one’s security and privacy while on the Internet.
“By enclosing net traffic into an encrypted tunnel and funneling it to a trusted server (say, a net-connected machine at home or one controlled by your company), VPNs prevent people monitoring a Wi-Fi hotspot or other local network from making heads or tails of your communications. All they see are encrypted packets. Best of all, this protection extends to every web search, instant message or email you initiate, regardless of the service being used.”
Lexmark trying to help users print less when they print the Web

Mike Masnick highlight’s Lexmark’s printing strategy when it comes to users printing documents from the Web.
“Lexmark is…making it easier for users to eliminate a bunch of the junk on Web sites before printing them out. This doesn’t require the companies hosting the content to do anything, it takes care of it on the client side. Given the insane costs of ink, it’s no surprise that printer companies have been a bit slow to adopt solutions that get people to use less ink — but it’s good to see them finally starting to recognize that it’s probably for the best.”
