Cisco’s CEO is optimistic about the company’s next two quarters

Cisco Subnet writes that even though Cisco’s revenue was down 18 per cent in Q4 over last year, its CEO, John Chambers, remains optimistic.”

“John Chambers: ‘We saw a number of positive signs this quarter in the economy and in our business, especially comparing our sequential quarter-over-quarter order trends. If we continue to see these positive order trends for the next one to two quarters, we believe there is a good chance we will look back and see that the tipping point occurred in our business in Q4.’”

Samsung and Sprint introduce the Reclaim — a cellphone made from corn

Joshua Topolsky writes about a new eco-friendly mobile phone available from Samsung and Sprint.

“The two companies have just introduced the Reclaim, a super-eco cellphone made from 80 per cent recycled materials. The device — a stout, sliding, QWERTY message-friendly model — is constructed from ‘bio-plastic’ materials made from corn, is free of PVC, and mostly free of BFR (brominated flame retardants). The carrier will be selling the Reclaim in ‘Earth Green’ or ‘Ocean Blue’ come August 16th for $50 (after a $30 instant rebate and $50 mail-in rebate) with a two-year contract.”

Erick Schonfeld writes about Google’s new beta version of its Chrome browser for Windows PCs.

“The company claims that it is 30 per cent faster than the current stable version of the browser (based on V8 and SunSpider benchmarks). What may be more significant, though, is that this is the first version of Chrome that adds some support for HTML5 , including video-tagging capabilities.”
