Comstor gets into the agent business with Cisco

Comstor entered the Canadian market about two years with great promise and a unique business model focused primarily on Cisco Systems business.

Since that big splash this market has heard very little from Comstor until this week when the business unit of Westcon Group unveiled support for the Global Partner Network (GPN) for Cisco’s TelePresence Distributor-as-Agent track. The GPN program enables resellers to utilize Cisco partner resources to service their global requirements.

Comstor will leverage its Global Procurement System (GPS), which is used currently to support cross-border rollouts. GPS helps channel partners execute on a global scale by removing obstacles typically associated with global distribution. GPS is aimed at helping these national players streamline project management and ensure coordination at the local level – while fully complying with government and tax laws.

Jon Pritchard, president of Comstor, said the initiative makes it easier for Cisco partners to assist customers in creating centralized design and purchasing decisions — while working locally to manage global product and services delivery. Distributor-as-Agent is one track in Cisco’s GPN program made available for Cisco TelePresence. The program permits Cisco partners to act as host in the customer’s headquarters for a globally coordinated solution. Cisco’s Distributor-as-Agent track for TelePresence is an enhancement to the existing GPN program, empowering partners to more efficiently conduct project management, delivery and logistics globally for their customers’ telepresence requirements.

Meanwhile its sister company Westcon announced the integration of Avaya’s data networking solutions into the company’s LEAP (Learn, Experience, Architect, and Plan) Centers of Excellence. The announcement was made during an exclusive partner event at Westcon’s LEAP headquarters in Denver, Colo.

Each LEAP Center is engineered to replicate real-world scenarios faced in deploying virtualization and private cloud infrastructures. Resellers can test and experience an array of high-growth solutions, including high-performance virtualized computing platforms, virtualization-enabled core switching, virtualization provisioning, network virtualization, SAN and SAN switching platforms, application networking, virtualized unified communications, virtualized applications, and unified data center management. Full functionality is available both on-site and via remote access.

Tech Data Corp. (Nasdaq: TECD) announced this week that it has partnered with VMware to deliver VMware vSphere 5 to its channel of over 60,000 resellers in the United States. Not sure what the plan is for Canada.

VMware vSphere 5 is available for live, remote, or virtual demos at Tech Data’s onsite VMware Transformation Center, providing resellers with expert-led sales and technical training to differentiate and optimize their businesses through offering virtualization and cloud computing solutions based on VMware technologies.

Amy Belcher, Vice President of Virtualization and Storage Product Marketing at Tech Data, said in the VMware Transformation Center, Tech Data is showing resellers how VMware technologies can deliver cloud computing solutions for existing data centers, helping to dramatically increase efficiencies and business agility.
