Databases for novices

MKF Solutions has released Database Oasis, a Windows database application for computer novices to create applications that store and work with data.

With no knowledge of computer programming, business owners can track inventory, manage client lists, and track invoices and payments. Home users can manage addresses, phone numbers, recipes, and collectibles, the company said.

Unlike other database-creation software, Database Oasis is designed for people who don’t want to learn SQL statements, or wrestle with expression builders, the company claims.

Creating a new database application works by moving objects onto a blank screen such as fields, check boxes, text, and places to store pictures.

Instead of starting from scratch, you can use one of the Database Oasis pre-defined templates. For many common database applications, most of the work has already been done for you. Simply select a template, and drag and drop objects to customize it to your exact needs, the company said.

Database Oasis runs under Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista. The Database Oasis Professional edition costs $99.99 for the server software and three user licenses. Additional user licenses are available. The Basic edition, for a standalone PC, costs $59.99 for a single-user license.
