Datto reveals new solution against ransomware for MSPs

Data protection vendor Datto released new product updates for Datto MSP partners. The updates primarily feature in Datto’s Siris 3, Datto NAS 3, and Datto Backupify solutions.

The Norwalk, Conn.-based vendor created a theme around these announcements of combating ransomware. Siris 3, a fully integrated total data protection platform for disaster recovery, now includes ransomware detection capability, which notifies admins if ransomware is detected, allowing them to roll back to a state before the ransomware hit in order to save business downtime and avoid the ransom.

“Ransomware is the only case where once you are hit, the only option is to rollback,” said Matt Richards, Datto product vice president, to CDN. “We added an entropy based algorithm to understand and recognize that your data on your backup is more random. As a business continuity backup provider, that is our sweet spot.”

Additionally, Siris 3 includes advanced screenshot verification that provides script execution to ensure backups are viable, and Datto Siris updates that have increased to four device options: an all flash 2 TB S3X2, or new 80, 100, and 120 TB enterprise devices.

Datto’s cloud protected network storage solution, the Datto NAS 3, has been upgraded to offer Infinite Cloud Retention. This allows customers to save all of their data to the Datto Cloud indefinitely, regardless of the amount, for as long as they use the Datto service.  The NAS Guard, a new feature for the Datto NAS 3, along with the Datto Drive local, allow the cloud storage solution to connect to, backup, and protect in the cloud any data stored anywhere on a local network.

Over 250 petabytes collected by Datto is stored on one of nine data centers around the world, including two in Canada, that meet requests made by European and Canadian, who are “often more concerned with data residency than US partners,” said Richards. “Our Canadian partners and their customers tend to be much closer in alignment to our European partners in their need for data protection, data residency, and data privacy than those in the US.”

With Datto Backupify, the company’s cloud to cloud data protection solution, new features include allowing MSPs to individually select which cloud user accounts to back up in order to manage costs. Also new is the management panel for Datto Backupify, and partners now have the ability to purchase and provision Backupify licenses to their customers. Additionally, the Datto Partner Portal now includes two-factor authentication.

All updates to Datto solutions are available through its channel partners and the Datto Partner Program. You can find more information here.
