Dell partners with Google on workforce initiative

Dell and Google are collaborating to build solutions for geographically dispersed workforces.

According to Dell, this latest bit of teamwork with Google is part of a much bigger relationship between the search engine powerhouse and the Round Rock, Tex.-based computing giant.

Under this arrangement, Dell will be developing a branded Chromebox for meetings specifically built for workforces who are challenged with having geographically dispersed teams. These workforces will be able to conduct meetings from a large variety of devices, from nearly anywhere, and collaborate ‘face-to-face’ in a virtual environment through the Dell Chromebox.

This product will feature a high-definition camera, a combined microphone and speaker unit and a remote control to enable users to connect to a display in a conference room, and recreate the ‘in room’ meeting experience regardless of all participants’ location.
This jointly-developed solution follows up on the recently released Dell Chromebook 11 for Education as well as its range of Dell Venue Android tablets.

Last week Dell premiered its Android-based Dell Wyse Cloud Connect controlled and fully managed cloud access device for Enterprises.

This will not be the last Dell/Google collaboration, the company said. The two are currently working on solutions with a theme of personal enhance in the office, in school or on the road.

Neil Hand, vice president and general manager of Dell’s tablet group, said working closely with Google on innovative solutions gives professionals the opportunity to connect, collaborate and meet face-to-face no matter where they are.
Felix Lin, director of product management at Google, said the relationship with Dell has grown over the last six months and the Dell Chromebook 11 has been well received by schools.

The Dell Chromebox for meetings is expected to be released in the middle of this year.
