Dell snaps up SonicWall security

Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) today said it acquired security vendor SonicWall for an undisclosed price. The acquisition is expected to be completed within the next 60 days.

SonicWall’s product line includes next-generation firewalls and unified threat management, which John Swainson, president of Dell Software Group, indicated would help fill out Dell’s growing line of security products for the enterprise. “SonicWall gives Dell access to unique intellectual property resources and technology that position us well in fast-growing parts of the software security business.”

SonicWall says it has 300,000 customers using its array of firewalls, secure remote access, email security, backup and recovery and policy, management and reporting. Other security acquisitions by Dell include Dell SecureWorks security services and Dell KACE vulnerability and patch management.
