D&H Canada signs HP and announces new promo

D&H Canada of Mississauga, Ont., has bolstered its computing offering by adding HP to its line of commercial computers.

Acer was D&H’s only other computing provider on its line card and Greg Tobin, the Canadian GM of the Harrisburg, Penn.-based company said the move was a matter of satisfying SMB customer demand.

The HP Smart Buy products, under this agreement, will include: desktops, workstations, notebooks, handheld devices, displays, accessories and commercial support services. D&H did have HP consumer products since July of 2008, but the Smart Buy series is more suitable to SMB channel partners. “These are purpose built products for business environments and the consumer products are a great value out of the gate, but now customers are looking for the best total cost of ownership, manageability, serviceability, and upgrade robustness than the consumer products,” Tobin said.

The key to D&H’s SMB channel base is that the Smart Buy products are pre-determined products that are available immediately and do not need to be configured.

Configurations, according to Tobin, are necessary for larger deals. “Smart Buy made perfect sense for us. It’s pre-discounted and it’s readily available product,” he added.

D&H also announced a new promotion to further the company’s green initiatives. April 22, 2010, will be the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Canada will be celebrating its 20th anniversary of Earth Day and D&H wants to bring more awareness to this effort by incenting resellers to purchase more green products each month. On D&H’s Web site resellers will see products marked by a Greenleaf icon. The products are in compliance with Energy Star and RHS standards. Resellers just need to purchase 20 products to qualify to be entered into a draw for a Vespa. There will also be month draws.

”We are not looking to drive sales with this promotion, but to raise awareness. Through this campaign we are driving awareness of our green initiatives,” Tobin said.

Internally, D&H has added T5 lighting that is motion activated in its new warehouse. The company has also embarked on a program that would see it recycle all materials. They are using carton recycled paper instead of air bags and they have switched from petroleum-based packaging to paper. There will be a new algorithm in its Warehouse Management System that will select the most optimal box for each order. This will reduce the amount of void fill. D&H Canada will also move to electronic invoicing.
