In an effort to keep up with Amazon.com, Inc., eBay Inc. has announced its plans to launch an end-to-end fulfillment service for sellers, which they have named Managed Delivery.
It will be launching sometime next year, beginning in the U.S. Managed Delivery will provide sellers the ability to store, pack and ship their products through expert logistics partners managed by eBay. Although it has already run a pilot project in the U.S., David DiBartolomeo of Select Tech, who took part in the pilot project, said that this has not only made their job easier but also increased customer satisfaction.
“eBay’s fulfillment pilot has made it easier and faster to get our products in the hands of customers,” said DiBartolomeo. “Today, shoppers are looking for fast and free delivery and this new service has allowed us to increase customer satisfaction while simplifying our business and saving money at the same time.”
eBay’s announcement says that this service is the final part of its three-part plan to create a more managed e-commerce ecosystem; with the first two parts being its managed catalog and managed payment options.
“A common request we hear from our high-velocity sellers is to help make delivery of high-volume items easy and fast,” said Devin Wenig, eBay’s president and chief executive officer, in an announcement on the company’s website. “Managed Delivery will be a competitively-priced logistics solution for businesses selling high-volume goods in popular categories like electronics, home and garden, and fashion. The implementation of this service will dramatically lessen the shipping burden on sellers, while improving the shopping experience and making unboxing fun for buyers.”
The company says the benefits of this service for sellers will include: lower fulfillment costs, customer support & protections, simplified and faster shipping, increased sales, and eBay branded packaging.
It is not yet confirmed if or when this service will launch in Canada.
