EMC tackles process automation and compliance

EMC Corp. is aiming to raise the bar for IT process automation and compliance regulations with its recent release of four key data centre solutions.

New from the Hopkinton, Mass.-based IT infrastructure vendor are EMC IT Compliance Analyzer (Application Edition), EMC Smarts IPv6 Availability Manager, EMC IT Process Centre and EMC IT Performance Reporter. The company has issued these solutions as extensions to its already existing IT service delivery line up of products, which include products that enable customers to more easily automate their data centre operations and processes.

While Jon Siegal, senior manager of product marketing at EMC, estimates about 1,600 North American channel partners are enrolled in the company’s Velocity Partner Program, he says the company continues to aggressively seek out partners, especially within the North American space.

“EMC is actively engaged in expanding its partner community,” Siegal said. “Velocity allows partners to earn progressive rewards for their incremental revenue attainment, investment and loyalty to EMC (and) also gain access to (a broad portfolio) of industry-leading hardware, software and services.”

Siegal also says partnering with EMC helps channel partners further expand their market reach and grow within the network management and IT infrastructure management business.

The vendor’s ultimate goal with the new product releases, says Siegal, is to help businesses better manage their IT service delivery applications and servers by allowing data and other tasks to be automated. When it comes to the bottom line, businesses can then ensure their IT staff is capable of being proactive rather than reactive when situations occur.

“These solutions allow customers to set policies around IT best practices, IT governance and IT process automation,” Siegal said. “The IT Process Centre helps businesses to automate end-to-end processes across the data centre and IT Performance Reporter provides businesses with real-time historical reporting capabilities around network performance and problem management.”

The IT Compliance Analyzer allows managers to set their IT compliance policies regarding applications and infrastructures, provides real-time analysis and reporting capabilities and also sends out notifications when any compliance violations may occur.

Among the new offerings, Siegal particularly wanted to highlight Smarts IPv6 Availability Manager, which he says is one of the industry’s first network management solutions to come to market that supportsIPv6, IPv4 and mixed environments.

For large enterprises, EMC has created its IT Process Centre, a system in which enterprises can better manage and monitor storage requests and service-level agreements.

The IT Performance Reporter is a solution that recognizes any performance problems that arise and can also forecast future network demands, which ultimately helps ease problem management within a business.

“With these new releases, we want to provide value-add solutions around analysis, automation and compliance,” Siegal said. “We’re typically targeting the large enterprise, service providers and federal customers. We’re certainly looking to expand with the medium to large enterprise space, but in the future, we’ll be looking at smaller customers too because these challenges are something every business faces.”

Siegal also says exploring the commercial market is a possibility for EMC moving forward as well.

“We’ll continue to enrich our portfolio around IT service delivery,” Siegal said. “We’re seeing strong growth in the areas that we’re targeting today and we’ll continue to collaborate and work with our channel partners to strengthen our markets worldwide. Our channel plays a significant role with our go to market strategy and we rely on them for a good focus of our business.”
