Flipboard arrives for Android with Google+ and YouTube

Flipboard is now available for Android. The app, which aggregates content in a magazine-like format, also integrates content from Google+ and YouTube, a Flipboard blog post said on Friday.

The application can be downloaded from Google’s Play store, Amazon’s app store for the Kindle and the Barnes & Noble Nook App Store.

In the U.S., Flipboard will come pre-installed on Samsung’s Galaxy S III smartphone when purchased from carriers including AT&T.

The integration of Google’s social network allows users to see all the activity in their Circles in the application’s magazine format. They can also “+1” any post from within the app (Google’s version of Facebook’s “like” button), or tap the status update to share, comment and reply, according to Flipboard.

Users are also able to flip through their YouTube subscriptions, uploads and favorites, or view feeds like Most Viewed, Trending Videos and Top Favorites, Flipboard wrote.

To further expand its distribution, Flipboard is now available in five new localized editions for Germany, Italy, Korea, Netherlands and Spain. The interface has been translated and there are reading recommendations chosen by local editors, according to Flipboard.

Flipboard has already been customized for Japan, France, China and English-speaking countries including the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia.

The company will continue to invest in localization, it said, without detailing what countries are up next.

The company will publish additional tips on using Flipboard with Google+ and YouTube on its blog in the coming days, it said.
