Former Cisco Exec to helm BlackBerry Global Sales

Carl Wiese of Cisco Systems will be replacing John Sims as the global head of sales at BlackBerry, the Canadian smartphone maker announced Monday.

Prior to joining BlackBerry, Wiese spent almost thirteen years as an executive at Cisco, the last six of which as the company’s senior vice president of global collaboration sales.

Sims, who had been at BlackBerry for about a year and a half, did not specify the reason for his departure.  His LinkedIn page has been updated to say “Seasoned Business Executive and Mobile Entrepreneur at Board and Advisory Services.”

This moves comes in light of a new strategic partnership that BlackBerry signed with Cisco.  Also, despite profitable quarters, the Canadian smartphone manufacturer laid off an unspecified number of its staff in May.

The company has been rumoured to produce an Android-based smartphone to try to boost device sales.
