Future technology: digital binoculars with 3D recording

Sony has released a new pair of digital binoculars that include Full HD (1080p) video recording. The Sony DEV-5 binoculars are capable of 20x magnification and in addition to recording 2D video can capture stereoscopic 3D footage (at 1080i) and still images, and record stereo sound.

According to the company the DEV-5 is the first pair of binoculars capable of 1080p video recording.</P.

The binoculars incorporate an HDMI port for video and sound output. Still images can be captured at a resolution of 7.1 megapixels.

Images are captured using dual G Lenses and Exmor R CMOS sensors. The included rechargeable battery is good for over three hours of 2D recording and around 2hrs 40mins when shooting 3D footage.</P.

The DEV-5 binoculars also incorporate geotagging of footage and still images.

The binoculars are available for a recommended retail price of $1,999.
