20% of TVs to ship in 2015 will be 3D, says analyst

“Global shipments of 3D TVs will top 50 million units in 2015, market watcher ABI Research said. We say it’ll be a darn sight more than that – probably in the order of 200 million. No, we haven’t been mysteriously converted to the 3D cause – quite the reverse. Reg Hardware is skeptical about 3D TV because we sense no real consumer demand for it. Some punters are impressed by the technology, but the vast majority of this group don’t feel sufficiently enthused to buy a brand new telly on the back of it.”

Skype Now Available for All Android Devices

“Skype is now available for the Android platform, but only on devices running Android version 2.1 or later. The Android app lets users make free Skype-to-Skype calls, as well as send and receive IMs for free. Calls to phones are charged at Skype’s standard rates.”

CommVault proffers ninth Simpana generation

“CommVault has also speeded up Simpana’s ability to protect virtual machines (VMs), with SnapProtect software, claiming: “Real world test results have shown that 500 VMs can be protected in just 17 minutes using Simpana.” Here is an example of a mainstream data protection vendor upping its VMware game and responding to niche VMware application providers such as Veeam. Simpana 9 has better auto-discovery features for VMs and more granular restore functions than before.”
