From LinkedIn, one of the first signs that Whole Foods is being run differently by its new owner, Amazon. Remember, the online retailer bought this grocery chain for $13.7 billion in a deal that closed in August. Whole Foods held an Amazon-style hiring day yesterday, seeking 6,000 new workers. Both full and part-time positions were available and some job offers were being made on the spot. Amazon’s used these mass hiring days to staff its fulfillment centres in the past. Amazon has already lowered prices at Whole Foods after taking ownership.

On Twitter, Google’s Go North conference featured Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau being interviewed by Alphabet chairman Eric Schmidt. The topic quickly turned to Canada’s immigration strategy. Schmidt pointed to a survey showing 22 per cent of Canadians now call themselves immigrants. He wondered if this might explain why talent is leaving Silicon Valley for the Toronto-Waterloo corridor. The Prime Minister said that Canada recognizes the value of immigration, while the U.S. currently does not. And frankly, it’s about time Google stopped poaching Canada’s best graduates from the University of Waterloo anyway.

From Google Trends, Barnes & Noble launched its new Nook GlowLight 3 eReader. As the name suggests, this e-Reader is made for nighttime reading. Its light shifts to the red spectrum, which is shown to be less disruptive to your circadian rhythm. It has a soft surface, so you can clutch it in bed for hours at a time. There’s also page-turning buttons on the side of the device. This e-reader is available for pre-order at $119 US and will ship on November 8.
