The IT industry would not be the same without the contribution of women. Some of the amazing women have helped the IT industry grow into what it is today.
In this article we bring together all the social media groups that are focused on women in IT. These groups are managed and marketed by women and have a majority of women members. Let’s take a look at some of them:
1. Women in technology:
This LinkedIn group was founded back in 2008 and since then has about 2,444 members in existence. The topics of discussion vary from informative articles to helpful IT workshops to general surveys and tips on the latest IT trends. Seniors level employees form the majority in this group.

2. Canadian Women in Technology:
As the name suggests this group is for Canadian women who are in the field of IT. It consists of 827 members. Like the previous LinkedIn group even here senior level employees form the majority followed by managers. This group was started in 2010 and almost 44 per cent of the group members are from Toronto. The latest discussion on this group revolves around social media consultation, webinars and news.

3. Women in Information Technology group:
This LinkedIn group is members only and was started in 2009. It has 4,772 people listed as members and most of them are senior and entry level employees. Since it’s a members only group it is not possible to know what their topics of discussion are unless you are a member.

4. Executive Women in IT (EWIT) Leadership Connection:
The description of this group says, “Whether you are actively working on the next steps in your career or you are a seasoned executive, this community of like-minded peers will be behind you as you continue your journey. There’s nothing more reassuring than having a powerful network of leaders who have faced and conquered the same challenges at your fingertips. ”
This again is a member’s only group and is owned by Kathryn Kirkcaldy. It has bout 440 members and consists mainly of CXO’s and directors.
5. Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology:
This members only group was started on April 22nd of 2009 by Antonia Issa who is a communications manager at Sirona Biochem Corp. in British Columbia. Most of the members in this group are located in Vancouver and are entry level employees. You can join this group by clicking here.
There are a few Facebook pages and groups out there which are dedicated to the women in IT too. Let us take a look at some of them.
1. Women in IT:
This is an open group which has women in IT from all over the world. The topics of discussion range from workshops to informative posts. It currently has 37 members.
2. Ladies learning code:
As the name suggests this Facebook page is dedicated to teaching code to women. However, they also have many engaging articles on IT and the latest digital trends that you can follow. The page has over 3000 likes and is run by Toronto based not for profit organization. You can like the Facebook page by clicking here.
3. IU Women in I.T.:
This is a group of Indiana University faculty who celebrate female technologists. They post about inspirational stories of women in IT and issues that are faced by them. The page also shares some interesting info graphics and events. Though this page has just 78 likes its worth following. You can hit the like button here.
On Twitter there is one handle which caught our attention.
Women in ITM:
Their bio says “Women in Information Technology Management (WITM) is committed to the advancement of women with an interest to pursue a career in IT Management.” They provide helpful tips and tweet about ongoing events. You can follow them by clicking here.
