HP making a return to the smartphone arena. Could RIM be an answer?

As expected HP is going to try its luck again in the smartphone market.

The company that spent more than a billion dollars acquiring Palm and the WebOS more than two years ago exited the arena under a cloud of uncertainty at the Palo Alto, Calif.-based company.

Company CEO Meg Whitman, was on the Fox Business Channel for an interview and said HP was working on a new smartphone device.

At this moment in Whitman’s business career, she and the rest of HP have to get this right or they will be an alsoran.

The task at hand for Whitman is not impossible. Recent history will show that Microsoft was dormant for a while and then returned and has seen some success.

What would be really interesting is if HP partnered with RIM in someway as both are eyeing the enterprise market.
