HPE is bringing its flash-ready multi-dimensional storage, the HPE StoreVirtual 3200 Storage, to SMBs across the channel.
The StoreVirtual 3200 was first introduced in August for the enterprise as an alternative to more traditional storage systems. It is designed to allow businesses to grow storage capabilities without having to buy additional physical controllers. Instead, businesses can add additional StoreVirtual 3200s to their storage lineup that would create a single cluster or pool of capacity for an application on a private cloud.
“Traditionally SMBs or customers in general would add new servers over time and end up with pockets of free capacity trapped where you are not able to get the most out of that investment,” said Brad Parks, HPE Storage Director of GTM strategy and enablement, to CDN. “If you have 5 laptops that are each half-full versus consolidating all of that on one. This announcement is for SMB customers looking to consolidate their data into one spot that is easier to scale and manage for multiple applications that they might have.”
HPE is driving the concept of scaling ‘up’, ‘out’, and ‘across’ with its StoreVirtual 3200 storage. It can scale ‘up’ by adding additional drives or drive enclosures to a pair of storage controllers, ‘out’ by grouping multiple controller pairs into a single storage cluster to double application performance and boost maximum capacity, and ‘across’ by using HPE Peer Motion to move workloads between StoreVirtual arrays without disrupting business operations.
“You can start very small and add additional capacity without having to buy additional physical controllers but if a customer enters a new line of business and has an application workload that all of a sudden is demanding a lot more than predicted, then they can scale out and add an entire second 3200 to create a single cluster for that application,” explains Parks.
HPE believes that storage is the “lifeblood” of a business, and it can be highly disruptive if not handled correctly. The StoreVirtual 3200 is designed to prevent any disruptive noise from happening as a business scales its storage needs.
“This gives channel partners the ability to capture the storage footprint at your customer account very early as they’re growing and land them on a storage platform that can grow with them in multiple directions,” said Park.
In order to reduce networking costs of the StoreVirtual 3200, and make it affordable for an SMB audience, the storage array now supports 10GBase-T interconnects by using 10 GB ethernet connects over the standard twisted-pair copper infrastructure already widely deployed within most IT departments.
Channel partners can also tackle on the HPE StoreVirtual 3000 File Controller to expand the StoreVirtual 3200 system for both structured and unstructured data needs from the same pool. The 3000 File Controller is compatible with Microsoft Windows Dynamic Access Controls.
