Ingram Micro welcomes a new vice-president

Ingram Micro Canada has a new vice-president.

The distributor this week announced that industry veteran Bill Steed, formerly the head of Avnet’s Canadian sales team and more recently the head of Tech Data’s Canadian advanced solutions, will lead Ingram’s newly consolidated Canadian sales organization.

“Adding an executive of Bill’s calibre will enable us to drive new efficiencies and best practice sharing across our sales divisions, while also aligning all our business operations functions under one leader,” said Bill Brandel, country chief executive for Ingram Micro Canada. “Bill brings with him a proven track record of success in the data centre space. As such, we are consolidating our Canadian Sales Organization under Bill, whose responsibilities include leading VAR East, VAR West, VAR Central, Majors, DMR, CSP, licensing and business operations.”

In an Oct. 21 press release, Ingram Micro said Steed will also oversee its customer relationships, providing a “single voice representing their growth and profitability objectives.”

The move comes roughly two months after reports surfaced indicating that Ingram Micro’s owner was in “advanced talks” to sell a majority stake in the distributor worth around $4 billion.

Reuters reported in August that a consortium led by Asian private equity group RRJ Capital was finalizing a deal with Chinese conglomerate HNA Group to invest $4 billion in HNA unit Ingram Micro for a controlling stake in the distributor.
