Intel looks ahead

This year will bring a host of new technologies designed specifically to help small and medium companies manage their critical IT activities and secure their desktop PC environments, according to Intel Canada.

In a look-ahead for the rest of the year, country manager Doug Cooper said PC management technologies that deliver tamper-proof security capabilities to help protect a company’s valuable data will be in demand.

These enable businesses to remotely test, diagnose and repair their computers as well as push security updates to end users even if the employee’s PC is powered off-reducing system downtime and the need for desk-side IT support.

Other predictions include;

–More SMEs will purchase online and outsourced technology services in an attempt to deal with the lack of available IT skills.

–Channel and service providers will see in an increase in the demand for greater levels of power efficiency and will turn to multi-core processing to help meet that demand;

— Dual core processing will make way for quad core CPUs in mainstream business computing, bringing an even greater increase in performance and the ability to run multiple applications simultaneously;

–A new generation of notebook PCs are coming that will deliver better performance with longer-than-ever battery life. Notebook PCs will utilize new wireless standards and technologies that will improve wireless performance and coverage, allowing employees to work remotely in more ways than ever before;

–The emergence of new category of mobile form factors called Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) about the size of a paperback novel. MIDs will offer Internet access through a variety of wireless technologies and will sport features like GPS, Bluetooth and wireless phone technology.
