iPhone apps 97 percent play, 3 percent work

Owen Thomas notes just how many applications are being downloaded for the iPhone for business-purposes.

“Ben Worthen notes in a Wall Street Journal blog (that) only 3 out of the top 100 most downloaded applications are business-related. The most plausible interpretation of those numbers: iPhone buyers and developers are, 97 times out of 100, uninterested in apps for doing business.”

Mike Masnick fleshes out the idea of using the Internet while in the air.

“With increasing attempts to turn Internet access on in the sky, there’s been some concern about people making VoIP calls from airplanes. Some of the companies providing Internet-in-the-sky have claimed that they would block VoIP calls, but that’s going to be pretty difficult…(because) you can always find a way to disguise the data, such that it won’t be blocked.”

Competition Bureau eyes Google-Yahoo deal

Rafael Ruffolo highlights the Competition Bureau in Canada’s stance on the Google-Yahoo partnership.

“Canada’s Competition Bureau is concerned that a new deal between Google Inc. and Yahoo Inc. will result in rising costs for Canadian companies looking to buy ads online. The world’s two biggest search engines plan to partner, in a deal which would see ads from Google appear on Yahoo’s search results pages. The Competition Bureau announced it is launching an investigation into the matter.”
