ZD Net
Rachel King shares details of two of Toshiba’s hard drives for employees who work in rugged environments.

“Toshiba has introduced a pair of new hard drives for professionals working in rugged environments with extreme temperatures and need 24/7-operation from their computers. The 80GB PATA interface MK8050GACY and the 100GB SATA interface MK1060GSCX boast “the widest temperature range for 24/7 power-on operation in the HDD market,” with a range of -15 to +70 degrees Celsius (5 to 158 Fahrenheit). Interface speeds, however, have been tested to be 100MB/s and 1.5 Gb/s respectively. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but production on these tough HDDs will begin in December.”

Lenovo IdeaPad U260: Truly Unique or Targeting MacBook Air?
The VAR Guy
Dave Courbanou writes about Lenovo’s IdeaPad U260 notebook.

“Lenovo has launched the IdeaPad U260, calling it the world’s ‘First 12.5 inch ultraportable consumer laptop’ with a 16:9 screen and a slim form factor. What are the specs, how sexy is it – and is Lenovo actively channeling and/or going after Apple? Lenovo says the U260 is uncompromising on luxury, providing a minimalist design, glass touchpad, metal alloy-cover and a faux-leather palm rest. Fancy. So what’s the price for this luxury item? A surprising start at $899 – or $100 cheaper than the 11-inch MacBook Air.”

Hitachi debuts 7,200RPM 3TB Deskstar 7K3000 hard drive
Engadget
Donald Melanson shares details about Hitachi’s 3TB Desktar 7K3000 hard drive.

“Hitachi was the first to roll out a 7,200RPM, 3.5-inch 2TB hard drive, and it looks like it’s now done it again at the 3TB level. That comes in the form of the company’s new Deskstar 7K3000 model, which appears to not only be the first 7,200RPM 3TB drive hard around, but Hitachi’s first drive with a 6Gbps SATA interface. Otherwise, the five-platter drive packs a 64MB cache buffer, an idle power draw of 6.8W, and what Hitachi describes as an eco-friendly, halogen-free design.”
