HP Powers Notebooks With Longer Lasting Batteries

Priya Ganapati writes about HP’s new partnership with battery vendor, Boston Power and discusses what that will mean for notebooks.
“HP said Monday it will add start up company Boston Power’s faster charging environmentally friendly batteries to nearly 70 percent of its consumer line of notebooks. HP is the first notebook PC maker to offer a battery based on what is seen as next-generation Lithium-Ion cells. The two companies first talked about the partnership in December. Boston Power’s batteries called Sonata charge much faster than conventional batteries and they don’t lose capacity over time. HP will offer a three-year year warranty on the batteries.”
Lenovo reveals ‘Pocket Yoga’ wide-format netbook

“ The netbook features a tablet screen with a digitizing pen and a tiny leather belt that wraps around the entire unit for travel, and then folds up to become some sort of travel mouse. It can be flipped over into a convertible tablet – not unlike a reporter’s notepad. Prototype? Mockup? It’s unclear, but there’s a lot going for this new segment of the netbook market.”
Novell’s SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 Netbook Surprise

The VAR Guy writes that Novell, which has cancelled its annual BrainShare event this year, will be going on a worldwide tour with HP, Intel and Microsoft beginning March 24.
“Hewlett-Packard and Novell will give away one HP Mini-Note 2140 at each tour stop … The netbook systems are preinstalled with SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 rather than Windows. Thanks to Linux Netbooks, Novell will reinforce its own brand during the upcoming road show.”
