Logitech may have a solution for extending tablet battery life

One of the big hits of the D&H Canada Technology Trade Show was the Logitech’s new wireless Solar Keyboard K760 or as it was called on the show floor the SolarFolio.

Made specifically for iPad, this keyboard case adds Bluetooth connectivity with a switching capability that allows for pairing of multiple devices at the push of a button. The SolarFolio has onboard cells that are powered by light for charging. With Bluetooth switching connection, end users can pair the keyboard to as many as three devices and switch among them without having to reconnect. For Apple users this would enable them to typing on a Mac to an iPad and then onto an iPhone and back again.

The keyboard features Mac-specific keys, including Command, Brightness, and Eject. Charging the keyboard can be done with any light source even a lamp. This is key because the SolarFolio does not force a user to power up only outdoors.

According to Logitech, a fully powered SolarFolio will work for at least three months, even in total darkness (based on average use per day of eight hours).

Priced at $79.99, the SolarFolio is not the only tablet accessory in Logitech’s line up. The company also introduced a FabricSkin Keyboard Folio for iPad and iPad Mini. These products feature contrasting colours and high-end fabrics.

Logitech worked with designers to identify fabrics and the colour palette such as electric blue, sunflower yellow, mars red orange, and in an array of on-trend fabrics from matte leather to finely woven cotton.

The Bluetooth keyboard has keys that are seamlessly fused into an interior fabric. It has full-size keys give end users a tactile feedback. The keyboard folio’s fabrics are treated with a coating that is liquid repellent. Hidden magnets hold the iPad in two positions, snapping the tablet securely into typing mode and ensuring the folio stays shut when you’re moving around.

The Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio for iPad has a suggested retail price of $149.99.
