Microsoft cements position as Android’s patent toll collector

ZDNet

Larry Dignan reports on how Microsoft will profit from every Android device shipped.

“For Microsoft, these Android licensing deals with Samsung, Acer, General Dynamics Itronix, Onkyo, Velocity Micro, ViewSonic and Wistron show that “licensing works.” From a business model and competitive perspective, Microsoft’s moves on the licensing front are brilliant. If Android wins, Microsoft gets a licensing stream. If Windows Phone takes off Microsoft also collects. Add it up and Microsoft has two horses in the mobile OS race.”

Motorola Xoom 2 images leaked, first look fails to impress

The VAR Guy

Dave Courbanou reports on the leak.

“Quite frankly, if the leaked photos accurately portray the final look and feel for the device, the Xoom 2 will be swimming in a sea of similarly uninspired Android tablet designs. In addition, the Samsung Galaxy 10-inch tablet, which I’ve long herald as a one of the best Android tablets worth buying, is still thinner than the Motorola Xoom 2. No, thinness isn’t everything, but when they’re side-by-side at the big box stores, the average consumer will judge them by their look, feel and design.”
