Ultraslim MSI Laptop Takes on MacBook Air

Priya Ganapati writes about MSI’s new ultraslim notebook that weighs only 2.86 pounds and is priced at nearly half of the cost of Apple’s MacBook Air.
“The X340 notebook will be about 0.78 inches thick at it’s widest point, compared to MacBook’s 0.76 inches at its thickest. It will run Intel’s ULV SU3500 processor, Windows Vista, a 13-4- inch display, a HDMI input, 320 GB storage and 2GB memory. The notebook will also come with Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi capability and a 1.3 megapixel camera.”
Intel delays Core i5 launch

Adrian Kingsley-Hughes writes that according to reports, Intel has delayed the launch of its Core i5 “Lynnfield” processors.
“I’m getting reports from insiders in the motherboard industry that Intel has delayed the launch of the Core i5 “Lynnfield” processors, pushing the launch back from July to September. To be honest, I’m not surprised to hear that Intel is postponing the launch given that there’s still life in the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad lines. Also, there’s little in the way of competition from AMD.”
Bartz Wants To Buy Social And Video Startups; Would Sell Yahoo For “Boatloads Of Money”

Erick Schonfeld writes that as per Carol Bartz, Yahoo is still in talks with Microsoft “a little bit” about the possibility of forging a search deal.
“Bartz … said that it (Microsoft) would require a ‘boatload of money’ along with the right data-sharing arrangement (because the search data is key to Yahoo revenues, ad relevance, and user experience). A search deal with Microsoft remains a more likely transaction. She explained: “There are two parties in all of this. The other party has all the money, we have the data.” Both are valuable.”
