It’s been close to two decades since Tech Data Canada went through a leadership change. But since the announcement late last year of the impending retirement of Rick Reid, president of the Mississauga, Ont.-based distributor, the company has changed its management structure and will focus on five key areas: Enterprise Solutions, Commercial Accounts & Retail Solutions, National Accounts, Cloud Solutions and Services.
With that change Canadian operations will be lead by Ed Galasso, who will now hold the title of vice president and general manager. The President’s title will be retired. Galasso was the sales director for Tech Data Canada and has been at the organization since 2001.
Reid will stay on as an executive advisor to Joe Quaglia, president, the Americas at Tech Data, and will be focusing on the integration of Avnet.
Former Avnet Canada GM Brian Aebig will have a prominent role at Tech Data Canada. He has been promoted to vice president of sales for the company’s Enterprise Solutions business in Canada.
These leadership announcements coincide with integration of the Avnet business in Tech Data.
Galasso will also be responsible for product marketing for Tech Data Canada’s commercial and retail business. A big supporter of the TechSelect group, Galasso will also be responsible for vendor relationships. Recently, Galasso drove sales force training and customer adoption for Tech Data Cloud and led the customer segmentation of Tech Data’s Canadian business.
The leadership plan will also include close integration with Aebig’s group in Enterprise Solutions and Services. Aebig joined Tech Data this February upon the completion of Tech Data’s acquisition of Avnet’s Technology Solutions division. Over the course of his 30-year career, 25 were spent with Avnet and he is considered an expert in data centre solutions-oriented channel business. Aebig joined Avnet in 1991 as a sales executive for the Saskatchewan and Manitoba regions.
Galasso will be reporting to Marty Bauerlein, senior vice president of commercial and retail for Tech Data North America. Aebig will focus on the solutions-led business with responsibility for sales, vendor relations, and supplier marketing for the Canadian portfolio affiliated with the Enterprise Solutions business. He reports to Mike Houghton, senior vice president, sales for Enterprise Solutions group in North America.
Quaglia said Galasso and Aebig have proven, experienced leadership in Canada and throughout their careers. Both have demonstrated customer service and sales skills that are key to the success of Tech Data and partners.
