New VMware chief set to make debut

Newly appointed CEO Paul Maritz will speak to close to an expected 14,000 conference attendees at next week’s VMworld 2008.

Maritz’s keynote will be his first opportunity to address the virtualization giant’s plugging stock prices and outline the company’s plans for the future. The former Microsoft executive joined VMware in July after the company fired popular co-founder and CEO Diane Greene.

VMware is also expected to make about 10 formal announcements at VMworld as well as describe the major products it plans to release in 2009.
