Airport feds can now take your laptop

Paul Boutin explains new Department of Homeland Security policies that could lead to laptop seizures for travelers in the U.S.
“Federal agents under the Department of Homeland Security may now seize the laptops of travelers coming into the United States from abroad. They’re authorized to copy and decrypt the notebook’s contents. The new DHS policies state that officers may ‘detain’ laptops ‘for a reasonable period of time’ to ‘review and analyze information.’”

“Fortune is reporting that investors are worried that Cisco CEO John Chambers won’t estimate a target for fiscal 2009 growth. There does seem to be light at the end of the tunnel. Bloomberg cites Chuck Heath, an analyst at UMB Investment Advisors as saying: ‘As you look out nine to 12 months ahead, you see revenue reaccelerate.’”

“After a false start, persistent outages , and all-around bugginess , Steve Jobs has admitted to employees in an internal e-mail that ‘it was a mistake to launch MobileMe at the same time as iPhone 3G, iPhone 2.0 software and the App Store,’ and ‘the MobileMe launch clearly demonstrates that we have more to learn about Internet services.’”
