Ooma buys Voxter Communications

Ooma is increasing its footprint in the VoIP marketplace by acquiring Voxter Communications Inc.

The acquisition, announced this morning, will allow Ooma to support businesses of all sizes with its smart communications platforms, says Ooma.

Voxter, a provider of custom UCaaS solutions for mid-market enterprises, will help improve Ooma’s existing business communications portfolio by giving small and large businesses even more options when it comes to the cloud, said Eric Stang, chief executive officer of Ooma, in a press release.

“With the addition of Voxter, Ooma can now serve larger businesses with highly customizable solutions that uniquely meet their individual needs, in addition to serving small businesses with the award winning Ooma Office platform,” said Stang. “Together, Voxter and Ooma bring deep expertise in cloud-based voice technology, increased scale, and stronger solutions for channel partners.”

Dayton Turner, chief executive officer and co-founder of Voxter said the acquisition will help take Voxter to the next level.

“Our mission at Voxter is ‘business VoIP, done right.’ We’re delighted Ooma shares this objective, and that our solutions fit neatly together,” he said.

The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Ooma has been trying to boost VoIP sales since 2016 after launching its Ooma Officer Partner Program. The program features two levels of partnership, reseller and affiliate. According to PC Mag, Ooma is ranked number one out of 211 competitors as the best VoIP service for businesses.

The company also recently upgraded its iOS app. Ooma added full screen support with the iPhone X for its free iOS app, as well as Apple CallKit integration, in January. CallKit allows Ooma users to answer incoming Ooma calls right from the lock screen, prevents Ooma calls from being interrupted when someone else calls your iPhone’s phone number, and make an Ooma call from an iPhone’s Contacts and Phone apps.
