Seagate and Super Micro form strategic alliance

Seagate announced a strategic alliance with Super Micro Computer, Inc. in an attempt to expand the market for Seagate’s Pulsar line of solid state drives (SSDs).

As part of the initiative, Super Micro will have access to Pulsar.2 enterprise-class, MLC-enabled products featuring 2.5-inch form factors with SAS2/SATA3 6Gb/s performance in up to 800GB capacities. Also part of the arrangement is qualified Seagate SSD products will be listed on Super Micro’s product Web pages.

Wally Liaw, vice president of international sales at Super Micro, said SSD technology has matured to a stage where it is a viable option for large scale, enterprise-class application. The Pulsar SSD product line offers the optimal balance of performance, capacity, reliability and affordability our diverse customer base expects from Supermicro’s solutions. This alliance brings both our company’s best expertise to the table and will serve to accelerate adoption of SSD technology in the industry.
