Seagate fixes bug in 1.5T Barracuda drives

Seagate on Wednesday said it has fixed a bug affecting some Seagate Barracuda hard drives that caused applications to pause.

The bug resulted in the company’s 7200.11 1.5T-byte hard drives hanging at certain times, which led to problems like pauses in video streaming applications. It also led to a failure to recognize drives in certain configurations. The hard drives showed “uncharacteristic operation” when used with the Macintosh and Linux OSes in multidrive environments, the company said in a statement.

To receive the firmware upgrade and instructions on how to install it, Seagate has asked customers to send the company an e-mail at [email protected] describing the problems and system information, OS and the application in use when the issues arose. Seagate has also asked for the disk drive model number, serial number and current firmware revision. The company said it will respond promptly to e-mail messages.
