Foxconn warns phones prices will rise

Bill Ray writes why the prices of smartphones made at Foxconn factories may rise.

“Mobile phone prices are set to rise, warns the owner of the Foxconn factories. The Hon Hai Precision Industry Co has suggested customers of Apple, Nokia and others should expect a hike given the amount Foxconn has been spending on improving conditions for workers, and the fact that it has employed a PR agency for the first time.”

Sony uncloaks first Google TV television

Cade Metz shares details about Sony’s first HD TV which is based on Google TV.

“Sony has unveiled the first HD television based on Google TV, the search giant’s fledgling effort to marry broadcast TV with the interwebs. The Sony Internet TV is available in 24-inch, 32-inch, 40-inch, and 46-inch models, and prices range from $599.99 to $1,399.99. Sony offers an RF mini-keyboard for navigating its TVs and, eventually, you’ll also have the option of driving the device via your Android-based smartphone.”

Larry Dignan sheds some light on forecasted tech budgets for next year.

“Technology executives see their budgets rising in 2011 and that money will be allocated to new projects, according to a Wedbush survey. Wedbush surveyed 100 IT managers with decision authority on projects. Wedbush’s findings indicate a penchant for cloud, virtualization and collaboration projects. Even big software projects like enterprise resource planning implementations are showing some momentum. Overall, companies are still cautious about the future, but will spend on IT projects that matter … 77 per cent of respondents expected IT budgets to rise eight per cent in 2011.”
