LAS VEGAS –– The Altiris division of Symantec has expanded the Altiris Developer Program with addition of a developer portal and a third-party price list.
The Developer Program also now offers software and hardware compatibility testing and certification for Altiris developer partners through AppLabs.
Symantec finalized its acquisition of Altiris, which makes IT asset management applications, on Monday.
The company said the developer program additions will help streamline the development and delivery of new customer, partner, and ISV-developed solutions on the Altiris service-oriented management platform.
“Our customers and partners help keep the Altiris management platform innovative,” said Dwain Kinghorn, vice-president of engineering of the Altiris business unit, Symantec.
“This has never been more evident since the launch of the Developer Program. We are helping our end users get the most out of their Altiris investment by providing them with the ability to develop their own solutions and, in the process, we are now able to offer integrated and certified third-party and OEM solutions to the rest of the world.”
A subscription to the Altiris Developer Program provides software development kits, support services, and developer communities to help extend the Altiris platform. The Altiris Developer Portal will be a central resource for the latest SDK and documentation updates, a developer-oriented discussion forum, a library of frequently asked questions, and supplemental sample code.
Many ISVs and Altiris partners have built or integrated solutions with the Altiris platform for the enterprise IT market, the company said.
It also announced Altiris CMDB Solution, what it called an easy-to-implement configuration management databse for the mid-sized organizations that helps deliver automated IT operations, improved IT governance, compliance, and asset visibility
CMDB Solution is natively built on the Altiris service-oriented architecture to provide tight integration with Altiris execution tools for closed-loop IT service and configuration management. CMDB Solution will deliver a practical alternative to other CMDB offerings by providing a basis for automating configuration management and servicing an IT environment, going above and beyond basic information and relationship tracking.
