California-based business intelligence solution company Tibco Software has named former Hewlett-Packard printing and personal computing systems boss Todd Bradley as its new president.
Bradley will be report directly to Vivek Ranadive, founder of Tibco. The former HP executive will now be responsible for the customer-facing functions of sales, marketing and professional services at Tibco.
From 2005 to 2014, Bradley held a series of key positions at HP including vice-president of the company’s printing and personal systems, HP’s largest operating unit with around $60 billion in annual business, according to a Tibco statement.
“Todd is a titan of the tech industry, having operated at a scale very few have experienced,” said Ranadive. “I am excited to have Todd join the team and help me continue to build one of the great software companies of the 21st century.”
Bradley has a long history of managing large companies. He has held senior roles at GE Capital Corp., The Dun & Bradstreet Corp., Gateway Corp., FedEx Corp., and PalmOne. He was CEO of Palm and had led its turnaround shortly before the company was acquired by HP.
Bradley was widely seen as a potential candidate to top posts at HP. However, in 2013, Meg Whitman, CEO of HP, reassigned him as executive VP of strategic growth initiatives to look after business in new markets such as China. Some industry watchers viewed this reassignment as a demotion for Bradley following a decline in HP’s PC business.
In a statement last week, Bradley expressed confidence Tibco’s big data push.
“I’m joining Tibco because I believe in the enormous role Tibco plays as a leader in big data, and because of Vivek Ranadive,” Bradley said in a statement. “Vivek is one of the great pioneers of the technology industry, seeing the big data opportunity a decade before the term big data existed.”
Meanwhile, Tibco also announced the appointment of Phil Fernandez to its board of directors. Fernandez is co-founder and chief executive officer of Marketo, a developer of marketing automation software. Prior to founding Marketo, Fernandez was president and COO of Epiphany, a leader in Web-based analytic application solutions for Enterprise Relationship Management (ERM). He also served as COO of Red Brick Systems.
