Two B.C.-based solution providers come together

Victoria, B.C.-based technology solution provider Charter has acquired Boardwalk Communications in a move that creates a national network technology provider.

Boardwalk Communications has been a long time member of the CDN Top 100 list. Last year, Boardwalk placed No. 62 on the list up from No. 66 with revenues between $10 and $15 million.

Founded in 1997, Charter focuses on mid-to-large customers including government. The Victoria-based Charter has four other offices across Canada and has done worked across the globe include unique countries such as Yemen and the Isle of Man.

Charter has established itself as one of Juniper Networks and Avaya go-to partners in Canada. With the addition of Boardwalk, the company now has Cisco products to its portfolio. Boardwalk too turned itself into a top Cisco partner in the West specifically for healthcare customers. Boardwalk also has an office in Victoria as well as Vancouver and Regina.

In addition to continuing to manage the operations of Boardwalk co-founders Andries Loubser and Philip Stone will also be joining the Charter management team.

“An opportunity to continue and potentially accelerate our growth with a company like Charter that is so similar to ours in many ways was something we could not pass up. We are mutually respectful of the value that each company delivers and I believe that this will create a synergy and strength that is unparalleled in the Canadian market,” Stone said.

Charter president Kelly Michell said the deal is “a coming together of highly-recognized, industry-respected, like-minded organizations with well-aligned values and operating principles.”

“With very little overlap in the marketplace, the companies’ combined strength and focus means we can offer the best in technology solutions with the highest degree of engineering expertise and customer service,” Michell said.
The two companies will have a combined workforce of more than 80 staff.

As part of this announcement, Charter appointment of Steven Kinsey as Executive Vice President of Strategy and Planning. Kinsey is a 16-year veteran of the channel. He was most recently the Vice President of Sales and Operations for Western Canada at Cisco Canada.
