Acer taps out yet more tablets

“Acer’s 10.1in Iconia Tab A500 wasn’t the only tablet the PC giant announced this week: it also took the wraps off a 7in Android-based alternative and a second ten-incher, this one running Windows. The W500 will come with Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit runing on a 1GHz AMD C-50 chip with integrated Radeon graphics. Acer has packed in 2GB of DDR 3 memory and a 32GB SSD, plus Bluetooth 3.0 and 2.4GHz 802.11n for connectivity. A dock accessory has Ethernet too, and HSPA 3G is an option.”
Michael Dell: Focus on ‘ingredient’ acquisitions, tablet OS choice

“Dell CEO Michael Dell said his company will continue to focus on smaller acquisitions that can scale with additional resources. Meanwhile, Dell assessed the tablet landscape and said the company will offer devices that run on Windows, Android and Honeycomb, the latest Google mobile operating system. The comments came following Dell’s strong fourth quarter results. The company’s acquisitions in storage as well as software and services have been able to fuel business in the large enterprise and SMB markets.”
Lenovo earns first Gold rating under new green IT certification system

Heather Clancy provides details on Lenovo’s Gold rating for Laptops under the UL Environment Sustainable Production Certification (SPC).
“Well-known notebook maker Lenovo has earned the first Gold rating for Laptops under the UL Environment SLC. The rating was granted for the upcoming ThinkPad420, a notebook computer that is slated to be launched later in February. Some of the factors that helped Lenovo earn this distinction were a focus on the use of low-halogen and post-consumer recycled content in the product as well as its choice of a design that make this notebook easier than average to disassemble for recycling or reuse after its own life.”
