UC in Healthcare On the Rise
Network World
Robin Gareiss writes how unified communications can fit into the healthcare industry.

“UC adoption in healthcare has lagged behind the overall market, with only 27 per cent of healthcare organizations deploying versus 47 per cent of all industries. But UC offers significant advantages to a vertical where reducing transaction times and speeding access to information has benefits beyond saving money: Healthcare organizations can reduce costs and improve patient care by leveraging vertically focused UC solutions. Healthcare firms that aggressively deploy UC can realize a competitive advantage over those that do not.”

McAfee Launches Cloud Secure
MSPmentor
Matthew Weinberger writes about a new auditing and certification program from McAfee, which is designed for software-as-a-service providers.

“In an effort to allay fears about the security and privacy of the cloud, McAfee today launches Cloud Secure, an auditing and certification program to help software-as-a-service (SaaS) providers promote their commitment to secure computing. Interested? Amazon Web Services is. It’s true: cloud computing pioneer and market leader Amazon Web Services, along with SaaS provider SuccessFactors, are expected to be among the first wave of Cloud Secure customers, McAfee says. What they get from the deal is the ability to reassure their customers that their security meets the highest standards, McAfee claims.”

Acer unveils its thin and light Aspire TimelineX 1830T (update: other models too!)
Engadget

Tim Stevens writes about Acer’s Aspire TimelineX 1830T laptop.

“Acer’s Aspire TimelineX 1830T is under an inch thick and weighs 3lbs, with an 11.6-inch screen offering 1366 x 768 pixels and driven by integrated graphics. Acer simply lists an Intel Core 2 Solo processor, but others are reporting that it will feature a Core i5 520UM processor which can range from 1 to 1.8GHz to offer decent performance along with great battery life — eight hours worth according to Acer, but we’ll believe that when we see it. Wireless is over 801.11a/b/g/n WiFi, there’s a VGA Webcam in the bezel, three USB ports, and even HDMI output, making it a relatively port-heavy ultra-light.”
