Cisco Subnet writes about some of the new technologies that are expected from Cisco next year.

“Cisco (gave) details of some of the technologies we can expect…in the new year, including a Big Bang switching upgrade expected late January that will be tied to ‘green capabilities,’ TelePresence system for the home, and language translation and speech recognition for Cisco’s new MXE 3000 media processor.”

Is Apple recession proof?

“Even if this recession causes consumer spending to decrease 10 to 20 per cent, there is still vast market share for Apple to gain. Currently, Apple has 14 per cent of the market, compared to Microsoft’s 80 per cent. Mac sales grew 37 per cent in 2007, more than double the industry-wide rate of 15 per cent. With new MacBooks debuted in November, new desktops expected in 2009, all while having the highest rated computers in the industry, Apple growth is not expected to relent.”

Gmail Enables SMS Messaging From Chat

Jason Kincaid writes about a new feature from Gmail which lets users send free SMS messages via its integrated Chat capability.

“According to the Gmail blog post , the site is currently testing out the service with U.S. phones only for now (messages can be sent from abroad, they just need to be directed at a U.S. phone). This isn’t by any means the first chat service to offer free SMS messaging – major chat networks like AIM have been doing this for years. But it’s a handy feature, especially for the many people who use Gmail all day long.”
