Video: Canadian Computer Charity Golf Classic turns 25

In 1984 Frank Squizzato, the head of ForeFront Graphics had an idea that the industry needed a golf tournament to raise money for charity. To that end he took upon himself to bring in an industry media partner Computing Canada (a one time sister publication to CDN – Computer Dealer News) that was operated by Plesman Publications at the time.

Squizzato, who today is a director and partner in UpMarket, Woodlandia, and Intamac NA, is the co-chair/co-founder of the Canadian Computer Charity Golf Classic. It is his vision back in 1984 which was initially just a gathering of friends for golf has turned into one of the leading money raising events for Easter Seals in Ontario.

As the organization celebrates its 25th anniversary, the Canadian Computer Charity Golf Classic has raised many millions of dollars in its quarter century of operation.

Many thanks go to the hundreds of sponsors who have contributed over the years. Most notably Ingram Micro has been the dinner sponsor for the past 18 years and Tech Data encompassing Globelle has been a major sponsor for 21 years.

This year’s tournament held at Angus Glen golf course in Markham, Ont., a Toronto suburb raised more than $200,000 for Easter Seals and the Princess Margaret Cancer Research centre thanks in part to sponsors such as Bell Microproducts Canada, Tech Data, HP, Synnex Canada and Ingram Micro Canada.

Casey MacKay, Easter Seals ambassador for 2009 was on hand for this event along with Canadian hockey hero Dennis Hull.

In this video feature, CDN editor Paolo Del Nibletto gets reaction from the many golfers on the 25th anniversary as well as plays the game show Putt or Plug.
